I've got a new favorite Warhammer 40K omnibus.  It completely blew the others out of the water.

So, in a way, I'm glad that I didn't read it first.  It does mean the one I'm reading now is suffering in comparison, but oh well.

The Founding by Dan Abnett follows Colonel-Commissar Ibram Gaunt and his Imperial Guard regiment, the Tanith First and Only.

At one point while reading the second novel in this omnibus, Ragnar's Claw, I bemoaned the fact that it seems like Chaos is always the enemy in these books.  Sure, the Ultramarines Omnibus had the Tyranids in one part, but the great majority of that one, and pretty much the entirety of the Souldrinkers Omnibus and Eisenhorn featured Chaos as the ( Read more... )

I've always found the Ultramarines to be a rather boring chapter of the Space Marines.  They're too perfect...they're almost like the preppies of Warhammer 40k.
